America Needs More Power… Can The Wind Industry Provide It?

From The Cities… To The Fields… And Back Again

In the waning days of the Great Depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Rural Electrification Act (REA) of 1936 into law, heralding a new era of growth and prosperity for the U.S. heartland.

You see, while electricity was generally available in cities and towns, it was nearly unheard of on farms, ranches and other rural areas. But the REA brought electric power to these sparsely populated Midwest farms and ranches.

Today, we’ve got the opposite situation.

President Obama is hoping that rural areas in the Midwest will return the favor by providing much needed wind-generated…

Alternative Energy Sources Are Growing Fast

What color shall I wear today?

A striking red? A classy blue? A summery yellow?

If you’re the Federal Reserve, you slap on a lovely shade of beige – the perfect complement to the gloomy news you’re releasing.

The bankers’ latest Beige Book Report paints a dim picture of the U.S. economy, with “weak, soft, or subdued” growth across most of the 12 regions that the Fed covers.

Wind Power: Pickens Lobbies, While China Acts

Wind power should account for 20% of U.S. energy needs within a decade – compared with virtually nothing now – as the country’s energy needs are increasingly taken care of by sources of alternative energy, former Texas oilman-turned-wind-power-entrepreneur T. Boone Pickens told Congress last week.

Speaking before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, the legendary investor warned that crude oil prices could rocket past the $300 a barrel level within the next 10 years as global reserves decline.

Pickens also was there to lobby for the construction of energy transmission lines from his Texas-based wind power Pampa Project, currently under construction,…

Former Oilman T. Boone Pickens Taps Wind Power, Natural Gas to Replace Foreign Oil

He made his fortune as an oilman, but yesterday (Tuesday) legendary investor T. Boone Pickens unveiled a plan to cut U.S. dependence on foreign oil through the power of alternatives such as wind and natural gas.

“We’re paying $700 billion a year for foreign oil. It’s breaking us as a nation, and I want to elevate that question to the presidential debate, to make it the No. 1 issue of the campaign this year,” Pickens said, USA Today reported.

Pickens launched a Website titled “Pickens Plan,” which went live yesterday, to outline what he calls a “bridge to the future” to help cut…

Warning from My Energy Insider…

I’ve been corresponding with an acquaintance who works at the National Science Foundation. This guy (“People call me Jim”) is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. And he asked me to note that he is speaking from his own personal views, and not on behalf of the NSF or the U.S. government.

Jim has a background in applied mathematics, electrical engineering and neural networks. He’s been involved in energy research since the 1970s. In terms of long-term knowledge of U.S. energy policy, Jim is a national asset.

Jim is an acknowledged expert in the fields of electricity generation and transmission. This…
