Election 2008: Taking a Financial Flyer on the Race for the U.S. Presidency

A Portuguese online bank, Banco Best, is offering deposits tied to the results of the U.S. presidential election: If U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., wins the White House, Banco Best will pay 8% for the period between the deposit and Nov. 4; if Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., wins, the bank will pay 2%. Obama vs. McCain

I realize it’s a bit early to do any kind of election predictions, but for all you political junkies out there, here’s the current score. If the presidential election were held today and it was Obama (D) up against McCain (R), the Democrat would come out on top winning 46% vs. 43% nationally.

According to a Rasmussen polling report, the Democrats would pick up Iowa, New Mexico, and Ohio (debatable). This would give them 284 electoral votes against 216 for the GOP.
