A New Bull Market Is Just Getting Started

Commodities are ready to explode higher.

In the commodity sector, you don’t get a more bullish sign than when the 20-day moving average crosses over the 50-day moving average. (And there isn’t a more bearish sign than when the cross goes the other way.)

Take a look at this chart of the Commodities Index (CRB)…

The 20-day moving average crossed over the 50-day moving average back in September 2007. That kicked off a strong bull market in commodity prices, and the index rallied from about 325 all the way up to 475 – a gain of 46% – in just 10 months.

Welcome to another installment of our bi-weekly round-up of what’s been happening in the world of commodities. Once again, there’s been no shortage of wild action, so let’s get right to it.

Oil Resting For The Moment

The energy markets took a much-needed breather and retracement over the last few sessions. Since the oil market was reaching unsustainable heights, this was bound to happen, and it did.

Whether it continues to regain its lost ground and make newer all-time highs is yet to be seen, but it is still driving all the other commodities markets at this time.

Crude oil topped out at $147.27 /barrel…

GO EAST, AMERICA! GO EAST!

It happened about six days before I expected it, but at long last the hardball tactics of iron ore giant Rio Tinto resulted in an 85% increase in iron ore prices this year. It happened earlier this week, after eight months of intense and sometimes rather unfriendly negotiations. The consequences could be very friendly for investors, though. More on that in moment.

But let me just repeat that in case you missed it – with the stroke of a pen, the value of a commodity exported by Australia went up 85%. Not even the oil market moves that fast!
