Walgreen (NYSE:WAG) said its electric-vehicle charging station program will expand to include about 800 of its 7,733 stores by the end of the year. The drugstore chain operator began its charging station program late last year, as electricity producer NRG Energy began creating a network of them in Houston. Walgreen on Thursday cited U.S. Energy Department data that indicates that its public charging stations will represent about 40% of such sites in the country. -MarketWatch
Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) has agreed to pay $85 million to settle civil charges that it falsified loan documents and pushed borrowers toward subprime mortgages with higher interest rates during the housing boom. The fine is the largest ever imposed by the Federal Reserve in a consumer-enforcement case, the central bank said Wednesday. Wells Fargo, the nation’s largest mortgage lender, neither admitted nor denied wrongdoing as part of the settlement. The bank agreed to compensate borrowers who were steered into higher-priced loans or whose income was exaggerated. -Daily Finance
AT&T (NYSE:T), the second-largest U.S. wireless carrier, reported sales that topped analysts’ estimates as a discount on an older version of the iPhone helped keep users from switching to Verizon Wireless. Sales rose 2.2 percent to $31.5 billion, Dallas-based AT&T said today. That exceeded the $31.3 billion average estimate of analysts compiled by Bloomberg. Net income declined 10 percent, and earnings per share were 60 cents, matching the average of analysts’ estimates. -Bloomberg
Shares of Robert Half International (NYSE:RHI) rallied Thursday as the Menlo Park, Calif., provider of staffing and risk consulting services said its net income tripled to $36.4 million, or 25 cents a share, from $12.2 million, or 8 cents a share, in the year-ago period.
