Taxation is Theft

Free Republic:

(snip)

The principle that your life, liberty and property belong only to you, and that you have no obligation to give them to others, and cannot rightfully be coerced into doing so, is the foundation of freedom. Any society that violates this principle makes slaves out of its members.

You should not be responsible for the consequences of my actions and decisions, and I should not be responsible for the consequences of yours. Each person must be fully and solely responsible for the consequences of the way he/she lives his/her life.

If you wish to feel guilty because you are able and willing to earn a living, that’s your affair. If you wish to donate some or all of what you have to others, that’s your affair. Nothing prevents you from giving as much as you like to the charities of your choice. But you have no right to select the charities that others must contribute to, nor to specify the amount or percentage of their charitable giving. If you did, then they would have the same right with respect to you, and you might not like their choices!

No one has the right to be "generous" (sic) with other people’s money without their permission. That’s not generosity–it’s theft.

Working to support yourself and your family is not immoral. Expecting to receive the full benefit of the work you do is not immoral. Expecting others not to steal from you is not immoral. Your hard work helps both yourself, your family, your community, your country and the world at large.

You owe no one any debt merely for having worked to accumulate property, nor for having done productive work.

My comment: The whole article is very thought provoking and well worth reading. These are arguments I often make and most people do not respond positively. I think the reason is that they have never considered that taxation is theft. They have been taught by society and school it is their duty as a citizen to pay or that in order to have an orderly society they should pay. Some people are just collectivists and have no problem stealing from others by way of the ballot box even though they are to cowardly to ever pull out a gun and do the deed themselves. However most people just do not perform critical thinking or have thought the subject through. That is why it is important to challenge poor thinking and argue against theft and government confiscation of wealth that does not belong to it.

  1. Garofalo’s comments. I’m sure all our blood was boiling when the so called actress from the FOX show 24 made her comments with Keith Olbermann. In her opinion everyone that attended the tea parties are “tea bagging rednecks, white supremacists…idiots,” and worse. This is a perfect opportunity to show we are united and Tea Party day was not just a flash in the pan. We do have power, ultimately in the voting booth, but until then our consumer dollars speak louder than words. MSNBC itself doesn’t care, but the sponsors of Olbermann and 24 do. If they are inundated with letters and emails voicing our displeasure and threatening to boycott their products they will take notice. In the 1980s the TV show “married with Children” was almost taken off the air because one housewife wrote to sponsors. Imagine what will happen if hundreds of thousands write! I encourage everyone to write the SPONSORS of 24 and advertisers on MSNBC. Show them we will not be insulted by people they sponsor. Be direct, forceful but respectful and by no means insinuate in anyway anything violent. Hit them in the pocketbooks and they will listen!
