Democrats Must Fight for Their Values and Beliefs (Part 4 of 4)

The last thing the Democrats should do is to attempt to recapture the South first with rhetoric that does not speak to the values of the southern voter. Southern voters can see right through a Michael Dukakis in a tank or a John Kerry in an old beaten up jacket. People can easily determine whether or not you are trying to pull a fast one on them. Every region has its own set of values and can not claim a moral majority. A candidate with no strong ties to religion should not preach as if he or she goes to mass every Sunday. The bottom line is to stand up for your beliefs and spread the message of your party.

My advice is to redirect the conversation towards the issues and matters that yield a direct advantage over your competitor. It is imperative to shape the debate in a way that favors your positions and gains votes. Metaphorically, it is like dancing. Whoever leads will control the flow and direction, thus yielding the power in regards to decision making and direction of the dance. The same is true in politics.
