Today I went through the typical routine of searching for momentum stock plays that not only meet my criteria, but also appear to be breaking out from long term consolidation periods. Unfortunately, no candidates fit my criteria for the time bring.

No reason to worry…

There is a time a place to make good trades and your patience will be rewarded many times over. Often, when investors have cash on the sidelines they are compelled to invest that money right away. The thought process behind this reaction stems from the fact that funds not invested are considered to be dead money. It’s is probably true that these funds are likely earning less than the rate of inflation, but the important thing to remember is that it will not be long before I find another hidden gem just waiting to be plucked.

The beauty of my investment plays is that many fall into the small-mid capitalization range. They are not the typical stories being reported on the television or news because they are young and growing companies. The darling stocks that the media and financial gurus speak of have probably already hit or come close to their peaks. There are some exceptions, Google and Goldman Sachs to name a few, but I am speaking in general terms.

Imagine initiating a position into a company before any of the institutional and investing public became aware of it. Wouldn’t you like to be one of the first to spot the emerging uptrend under development? Most investors could describe in detail their most profitable trade, but how many of those stories occurred as a result of pure luck. I know many investors that fall into this category. If you find yourself blindly throwing darts at a board, you might as well be gambling in a casino with odds that would only serve to deplete your funds over time.
