Take the Gloves Off

The Democratic party needs to take the gloves off and starting fighting for what they believe in. Too long have we been passive and cowardly in our convictions. Unfortunately it may just come down to the fact that we are the peaceful or “dove” party and the Republicans play the role of the aggressors or “hawks.” It is in our nature to be considerate of others and their opinions.

However, I believe there is more to this argument than just the political genes each of us inherits. There have been many political successes that the Democratic party has achieved, such as Medicare, Medicaid, human rights, abortion rights, Social Security, etc. When a party accomplishes most of its objectives, it tends to lose some of the fight.

Now this does not mean that the Democratic party is without purpose. Right now they are the party of fiscal responsibility until proven otherwise and the Republicans are actually driving big deficits, big government, and big benefits for the rich. In addition to this, our healthcare system is in need of dramatic change. As the wealth gap expands, the morale of the majority will decrease and those who see no added improvement in their standard of living will certainly gravitate towards a party that is willing to support and act on their views. Political change takes time. National movements and political realignment take years and even decades to mature.

To sum things up, Democrats need to use their brains, wait for the right opportunities, take the gloves off, and get our country back on track.
