Hillary Clinton or the Alternative?

I have many thoughts of the former first lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton. She is a Democrat who is intelligent, passionate, tough, and has her husband Bill by her side to offer his valuable insight and sense of political balance. The only question is, how does she expect to be elected?

Although I am a supporter, I believe that she might struggle on the campaign trail. This is not because of her polarizing celebrity status, but because there is a sense that in order to win a national election, there must be a candidate who can appeal to voters from all 50 states. Now everyone knows that her marriage had serious issues and that her healthcare plan fell through in the early 1990s. To me, these points have been beaten to death and will have little effect in future. Furthermore, if a candidate takes a difficult issue like healthcare, the results of their efforts will either equate to political brilliance or disaster. I personally commend her for challenging us to improve the current healthcare situation. Our healthcare system that already costs more per person than all of the industrialed nations that provide some kind of universal care.

As far as the marriage issue, I consider them to be a non-factor in my decision because it is not my life. Instead, I value the candidate’s positions, grasp of relevant issues, and history for getting things done. In my opinion, the best hope for national appeal would either be Mark Warner of Virginia or John Edwards of North Carolina. I like both candidates, but am more inclined to favor Warner because of his fiscal responsibility and history of working to bring both party members together. Virginia is now one of the best managed states in the country. Warner would probably tell you that is was not easy to achieve such success. When he first came to office, the state was flooded in debt and struggling to get back on its feet. Hopefully he can broaden this appeal and create the recognition necessary to capture the White House. Now the only question is, which candidate is best for America?
