It is imperative that the United States continue to invest in research and development, especially in bio and nano technology. They are industries of the future that can broaden our intellectual and competitive advantages. As technology shrinks and becomes more affordable, we can begin to introduce agents that will better our health and create synergies with other technologies. For example, current solar panels are large compared to the nano solar power cells that are currently being developed in the laboratories of research institutions. These cells are so small that you could literally apply a thin layer on the outer siding of your home and reduce the need to be on the electrical grid.
